November 1, 2011 marked the birth of the 7 billionth person on earth. This event came during with the global economic crisis, the related "Occupy" protests against economic and social injustice and just after the Vatican statement pointing to "the need for Global Public Authority."
People have noted that we are many and that there are vast inequities. Some people have also noted that the future of humanity and our planet is up to us.
I am writing to you today as the Executive Director of the American Movement for World Government, which is working to recruit new members and to relaunch its website, www.AMWG.org. If you are a quiet supporter of the idea that the world must be governed democratically with justice for all, let us know. Send us your comments on the ideas on this AMWG blog. I think we need a Federal World Government that can be made to grow out of the United Nations.
This goal can be achieved if enough people worldwide call out for justice and for the fair representation of nations and peoples in the UN system. I want to establish a UN Parliamentary Assembly so that everyone on earth will have a voice at the UN; I want UN Member States to be more fairly represented in the UN General Assembly through weighted voting that recognizes their populations and their contributions to the UN system; I also want all nations to participate in the debates and decisions of the UN Security Council so that regions such as West Asia, and the Arab League will be engaged and counted in proportion to their people power and their economic power to contribute to the development of Global Public Authority.
Tell us what you would like to see in the world system, what you think would contribute to justice, and to fairness to create ENOUGH for all. The world has the resources and the wisdom to provide ENOUGH for us all. In my opinion we need a Federal World Government to do this. How do you see this issue?
